A silk, plum-colored suit with a cream vest embroidered with intricate, colorful flowers.

Christopher Gore wore this plum-colored court suit in 1803 when he was presented to King George III while serving as head of the American embassy in London. He probably wore it again at his 1809 inauguration as governor of Massachusetts.
