Narrator: Gore Place is a nonprofit historic estate on the Waltham/Watertown line in Eastern Massachusetts. We have fifty acres of open space just nine miles from downtown Boston.

Narrator: We preserve and promote the country estate of Massachusetts Governor and Senator Christopher Gore and his wife Rebecca as a unique community resource that tells stories of early American life. You can learn more about our history on our website, goreplace.org.

Narrator: Our grounds are open for free every day, except during special events. If you will be using a wheelchair or other mobility device during your visit, here is a brief description of the terrain of the estate. The terrain features hard-packed, dirt-and-gravel pathways, and grassy lawns varying from relatively flat to a sloping hill. Dirt-and-gravel pathways are edged by grass in the warmer months or snow in the wintertime. If you visit with young children, jogging strollers work best here, but other stroller types may work as well. Pets are not allowed on the estate, but we welcome your service animals. Narrator: Whether you’re planning a full-day visit or just stopping by, there’s so much to do and experience at Gore Place.

Narrator: Take a guided tour of the Gore Mansion and get a view into 19th century life, meet our sheep and chickens who live on our farm year-round, discover open and hidden spaces with a family activity backpack, or visit the Nature Playscape, an outdoor family play area. Narrator: Two of our historic buildings are open to the public: the 1806 Gore Mansion and the 1793 Carriage House. If you are using a wheelchair or other mobility device, the ground floors and restrooms of these buildings are accessible. These buildings, including restrooms, are open only during tour hours and other museum programs. While our grounds may be open, our buildings may be closed when you visit.

Narrator: You can take a tour of our historic buildings with our knowledgeable guides.

Narrator: 45-minute guided tours of the Mansion are available Monday through Saturday during the day and on select Friday evenings. Journey back in time inside one of the finest Federal-period buildings in America. Multisensory features, such as scents, sounds, and tactile objects, will enhance your tour. The Mansion’s ground floor is accessible to visitors using wheelchairs or other mobility devices. The Mansion’s upper floors will be viewable through a live audio and video stream. Please call us for more details on tour accessibility. Guided tour group sizes are no more than 14 people. Reservations are not required for small groups, but call ahead for groups of six or more.

Narrator: Gore Place offers events for all ages year-round, like our Sheepshearing Festival, a New England spring tradition since 1987. You can learn more about these events by clicking the links in the description below.
