About this Project

We need you to be a part of our next big project! Help us create an authentic, agrarian farm precinct around our existing 1835 Farmer’s Cottage and build a new barn in an early 19th-century style for the Farm at Gore Place.

Today, when you visit Gore Place, you can only see our sheep from a distance in the pasture. The new barn will house our flock of Leicester Longwool sheep and our poultry, plus it will allow us to add pigs to the Farm. But this new barn won’t just help Gore Place visitors experience history. It will be a beautiful, safe new home for our animals. In the new barn, you will be able to see the sheep up close — even lambs with their mothers. And it will maintain our animals’ safety from both winter storms and predators like coyotes.

In addition to being historically accurate, the farm precinct and barn structures will be enjoyable for all with accessible pathways and restrooms as well as other modern amenities.

Christopher Gore, who established this country estate along with his wife Rebecca, referred to their estate as “my farm at Waltham.” Mr. Gore was passionate about implementing progressive farming practices on his land. By building a barn in keeping with what would have stood here in the Gores’ time, we will bring historic farming to life for our visitors, right here in Waltham and Watertown.

We need your help to raise the barn. Every gift makes a difference!
