TALK: Charles Metz and his Magnificent Aerodrome
Sunday, October 13, 2024 at 3:00 p.m.
In the spring of 1911, innovator and entrepreneur Charles Metz purchased the Gore estate with its 125 acres in Watertown and Waltham. Fascinated by the new innovation of airplanes, Metz quickly converted a barn into a twelve-plane hangar, the mansion into a clubhouse, and transformed the expansive meadow south of the mansion into an airfield aviators called “the best in the country.”
Come hear historian Diann Ralph tell the tale of the Metz Meet! Her illustrated talk in the 1793 Carriage House will be followed by a tour of the grounds and mansion.
