FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: JANUARY 4, 2016
Thousands expected to attend 29th annual Sheepshearing Festival at Gore Place.
(WALTHAM, MA) With hundreds of participants and thousands in attendance (last year’s attendance approached 10,000), the sheep shearing at Gore Place continues to be one of the region’s finest festivals. This popular event returns on Saturday, April 30 from 10am to 5pm (RAIN OR SHINE). Those attending can not only watch demonstrations of sheep shearing and herding dogs, but they can shop in one of the region’s biggest and best craft fairs. Along with fiber products such as locally produced and hand dyed wool, visitors can peruse a wide variety of craft goods from jewelry to wooden toys, clothing, stained-glass, and much more. All craft goods are made in this country by hand.
“The fact that our Sheepshearing Festival is now in its 29th year shows how much interest there is in this great event. Coming to Sheepshearing is now a multi-generational tradition with many local families,” says Festival organizer Thom Roach.
With so much to see and do, many people make a day of it and food vendors are available to help them keep their energy up offering a wide variety of healthy food with some great choices like fresh popped kettle corn made right on site in big copper kettles. For the visitor’s convenience, a food hall is set up in the Music Tent where live music fills the air throughout the day.
Admission for the festival is just $20 for adults with children age 12 and under and Gore Place members admitted free. Except for a small fee for wagon rides and mansion tours, all other activities are free of charge. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. No pets or other animals are allowed. On site and satellite parking is free. Trolley service is available.
Gore Place is located at 52 Gore Street, off Route 20 (Main Street) near the Waltham/Watertown line. For details and festival updates, visit goreplace.org.
