Few writers of any era have written more insightfully or entertainingly on the subject of romantic love than has Jane Austen. During these special tours of the beautiful 1806 mansion, a guide dressed in period clothing will use quotes from Austens novels and letters to describe the triumphs and foibles of love in Austens time.

Austen lived from 1775 to 1817. Christopher and Rebecca Gore lived in England from 1796 to 1804. The grand mansion they built in Waltham, Massachusetts in 1806 features both French and English influence in the design and greatly resembles the manor houses described in Austen's novels.

Tours are limited to 28 guests per hour. Reservations are suggested. Tickets for the Jane Austen Tours are $12, $8 children 5 to 12. For advanced tickets, call (781 ) 894-2798.

The English tradition of afternoon tea plays an important part in Austen's novels. Everyone attending the Jane Austen Tours will receive a discount coupon for The Tea Leaf tearoom on Moody Street in Waltham. Reservations are required in advance for tea.
